Char-siew Oat Pie
Ingredients

Pie Base:

- 1 1/2 cup instant Quaker oat

- 2 tsp granulated sugar

- 1/2 tsp salt

- 1/4 cup olive oil

- 4-6 Tbsp cold water as needed

Char-siew Pork:

- 350 gr. pork loin

- 4 Tbsp Char Siu sauce

- 2 Tbsp Hoisin sauce

- 1 Tbsp granulated sugar, to give a caramelised layer

- 2 Tbsp cooking oil

- Crispy fried shallot, for condiment if desired

Procedure

Pie Base:

1. Mix oat, sugar and salt in a bowl.

2. Stir in the olive oil until it is crumbly.

3. Add in the cold water slowly one spoon at a time until the mixture is moistened but not sticky.

4. Press the dough into a pie plate, pressing it up the sides as desired. The pressure is important to make sure it won't break or crack after you bake it.

5. Bake at 190'C around 20-30 minutes until the pie crust is a bit brown in color.

6. Leave it in the pie plate until it cools down a little bit, before you get the pie out of the plate.

Char-siew Pork:

1. Marinate the pork loin in Char Siu sauce and Hoisin sauce together for at least 30 minutes.

2. Preheat the oven to 190'C.

3. Sprinkle the marinated pork with sugar, before roasting it in the oven for 20 minutes.

4. After 20 minutes, flip the meat to the other side, brush another layer of Char Siu sauce, Hoisin sauce and sugar, roast it again in the oven for another 20 minutes.

5. Turn off the heat and leave it in the oven to rest for a couple of minutes before slicing.

6. Slice it as desired, serve it with the pie while it is warm with some crispy fried shallot as desired.

Tips: after you mix the Char-siu sauce and Hoisin sauce, you can taste and add more sugar or sauces as desired. Cover your baking pan with aluminium foil for an easy clean-up because the sauce and caramelised sugar tend to stick to the pan.
