Quaker Oat Dim Sum
Quaker Oat Dim Sum (Steamed Scallop Siew Mai & Fried Shrimp Wanton using oatmeal)
Ingredients:
- Wanton skin (round)
- Wanton skin (square)
- 200g minced pork
- 100g minced scallops
- 100g minced prawns
- 4 Tbsp instant oatmeal
- 1 Tbsp of wolf berries
- Cooking oil for frying
Seasoning:
- 1 Tbsp soya sauce
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1/2 corn flour
- 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1/2 Tbsp minced onion
- Pinch of pepper
- 1 egg
Steam Siew Mai with scallop & oat
1. Marinade minced pork with seasoning
2. Use half of the marinade minced pork and add in scallop
3. Add 2 Tbsp of oat
4. Mix well and set aside for 30 mins
5. Place a round wanton skin on palm
6. Put a spoonful of filling in the center of the wanton skin
7. Use some water to moist round the wanton skin
8. Shape the Siew Mai into round shape and a firm base so that it can stand
9. Form a circle using your thumb and index finger
10. Add one wolf berry on top
11. Place Siew Mai on a bamboo steamer
12. With medium heat, steam it for 10-15mins
Fried Shrimp Wanton with oat
1. Use half of the marinade minced pork and add in shrimp
2. Add 2 Tbsp of oat
3. Mix well and set aside for 30 mins
4. Place a square wanton skin on palm
5. Put a spoonful of filling in the center of the wanton skin
6. Use some water to moist the edge of the wanton skin
7. Fold into a triangle or any shape you prefer
8. Heat up cooking oil and fry the wanton into golden brown
First attempt to incorporate oat in cooking. Making a twist in the all-time favourite dish dim sum using oat.
It was fun but glad that it turn out well, suitable for those who are not in favour of too meaty taste. The oat will smoothen out the texture. Most importantly, it makes a healthier choice as Oat is a good source of iron and will help to improve our immune system.
